What do we need:

This position promotes the safety of the community at People Serving People's downtown Minneapolis shelter facility. The Community Safety Manager oversees and manages the 3rd party security contract and relationship. The shelter's security team supports all shelter programs and engages stakeholders to identify and address safety needs and empowers community members to safeguard each other through training and related supports. This position offers an opportunity to collaboratively define and promote a more expansive and community-oriented definition of safety.

Responsibilities:
Provides daily oversight, quality control and onboarding of People Serving People's contract security team, and partners with supervisor and peers to promote a high quality of service. Works collaboratively with key departments to create and implement plans to support guests with safety concerns. Serves as a key consultant to operate and maintain the downtown shelter's security and safety equipment, including but not limited to cameras, access controls, automated external defibrillators, and evacuation aids. Develops and executes annual operating and capital budgets using stakeholder input and participates in long-range visioning around the future of community safety at People Serving People. Leads the downtown shelter's emergency preparedness program by maintaining existing and developing new emergency procedures, administering emergency drills, performing after-action reviews and using lessons-learned to continually improve emergency response. Partners with Facilities department, Compliance Manager, Senior Director of Enterprise Operations, and supervisor to continuously evaluate the physical safety of the downtown shelter facility and identify/resolve potential hazards. Serves as People Serving People's de-escalation champion. Collaborate with departments to identify de-escalation training needs and work collaboratively to source and schedule de-escalation training. Partner with People & Culture and the Compliance Manager to ensure effective rollout and completion of required training, such a de-escalation, CPR/First Aid as well as proper distribution of emergency medical response materials (i.e., naloxone) for the Downtown Shelter. Attends Guest Advisory Council no less than quarterly to solicit feedback on and respond to any shelter guest concerns regarding community safety. Provide regular safety information and resources to guests. Participates in People Serving People's Safety Committee. Conduct safety and security investigations as needed. Supervisory Responsibilities: The Community Safety Manager provides direct oversight of and quality control for People Serving People's contract security team, including the security account manager and community safety coordinator.

Pay and Benefits:
$86,000 annually Full-Time, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Medical, dental, and vision insurance available. Highly competent with Microsoft software including Outlook, Word, Excel, and the Office365 suite of applications including Microsoft Teams and SharePoint. Experience using web-based portals for procurement and compliance. Experience working with diverse teams and engaging constructively with diverse stakeholders, ideally but not necessarily those who have experienced homelessness. Familiarity with security equipment including but not limited to security cameras and network video recorders, access controls, metal detection and mass notification systems. All-hazard emergency management experience, including developing and exercising emergency procedures. Experience in training sourcing and delivery, ideally but not necessarily on safety topics. Must have or be able to obtain within 12 months CPR/AED/First Aid instructor certification. Must have or be able to obtain within six months opioid reversal instructor training. Experience overseeing facility safety, including the identification and elimination of physical hazards associated with but not limited to tripping, falling and electrocution. Experience developing and executing operating and capital budgets. Familiarity with grants and experience using grants to fund priorities is highly desired. Familiarity with commercial security industry and civilian and/or military law enforcement. Formal experience in security or law enforcement is not required. Familiarity with criminal justice issues impacting marginalized and oppressed communities as well as with disparities and inequities created by systemic racism. Familiarity with the impact of trauma as well as trauma-informed and trauma-responsive practices. Experience serving on committees or working groups desired. Able to work on call and respond to emergencies after scheduled hours.
