-The Crew Workforce Planning team leverages advanced analytics to deliver optimal staffing levels for the airline while balancing operational reliability, crew member satisfaction, and enterprise cost.  As airline flying schedules follow ever changing consumer demand, accurately forecasting crew workforce requirements is critical to running a reliable operation.  As the leader of the Crew Workforce Planning team, this position owns airline crew staffing – a key element to achieving AA’s operational performance goals. 

What you'll do

-Leads the team in engineering robust staffing plans for both pilot and flight attendant workgroups, while balancing operational reliability, crew member satisfaction, and enterprise costs
-Leverages advanced analytics to forecast, optimize, track, report, and manage crew business variables. Drives continuous improvement of the workforce analytics toolkit - crew staffing models, reserve forecast, training optimization engine, training assignment modeling, and model validation to ensure planning integrity and operational relevance.
-Leads operational and financial analysis of business variables including, but not limited to, flying schedules, labor contract provisions, regulatory provisions, and technology
-Engages actively with Crew Scheduling leadership and floor supervisors in staffing plan execution and partners with Crew Schedule Planning team in understanding crew trip economics
-Partners with Training leadership for both pilots and flight attendants to ensure staffing plan readiness at all times
-Partners with Flight and Inflight groups on staffing variables impacting crew members and facilitates effective communication of changes
-Partners with Network and Schedule planning teams to maximize crew supportability of airline flying plans while maintaining planned operational reliability profile and crew member satisfaction levels
-Partners with Division Finance team to develop crew pay hour forecasts that impact ~$7.0B in payroll costs, during both annual and monthly processes
-Partners with Financial Planning & Analysis team in securing timely approval for hiring proposals and other resource requests
-Partners with Labor Relations on contractual provisions and engagement with union representatives

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications – Education & Prior Job Experience

-Bachelor’s degree in Aviation, Business, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
-7 years of leadership experience, overseeing large cross-functional teams
-Prior experience in airline commercial strategy, marketing, or communications; experience in airline loyalty program design/marketing
 

Preferred Qualifications – Education & Prior Job Experience 

-MBA or advanced degree in a relevant field
-10 years of relevant technical and business work experience
Skills, Licenses, and Certifications

-Demonstrates the highest standards of personal ethics and integrity
-Ability to lead, motivate, coach, and counsel a diverse team of managers and analysts with advanced degrees in analytical disciplines
-Demonstrated leadership experience with implementing planning and forecasting models
-Excellent quantitative and analytical skills with an aptitude for problem solving 
-Working knowledge of probability, statistics, and forecasting techniques, as well as experience with SQL and simulation software, a plus
-Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, including Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
-Ability to think strategically, negotiate skillfully, digest complex details, and use sound judgment and initiative in making decisions
-Ability to productively and proactively adjust to dynamic situations
-Ability to influence through outstanding collaboration and negotiation skills
-Strong interpersonal and organizational skills to complement analytical, optimization, and data modeling capability
-Ability to actively engage with senior leaders across the organization on strategic business decisions
-Ability to build collaborative relationships with, and consensus amongst, multiple stakeholders with varying points of view
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to effectively and clearly communicate with employees at all levels of the organization
-Demonstrated ability to create a culture of continuous improvement that is open and respectful and that thrives on diversity and trust
