The Department of Student Housing and Residence Life practices and upholds five core values for students and staff. Reporting to the Assistant Director, Residence Life, the Community Development Coordinator (CDC) is a live-in position that works to create a positive living and learning environment for residents at UTM. In accordance with departmental policies and the academic mission of the University of Toronto, the CDC will supervise a staff team consisting of live-in student leaders (Dons, Community Assistant), to foster and promote a residence community that supports the academic success and personal growth of all residence students. This will be achieved through multi-modal program development and implementation, leadership development of residencestudents and staff, and the integration of university support services within the residence community.

In consultation with the Assistant Director, Residence Life, the CDC will be responsible for the supervision, leadership development and management of a team Residence Dons. They will collaborate with the Assistant Director creating the overall vision and strategy for staff recruitment, training and evaluation initiatives, and implement associated programs and tasks. Working collaboratively with the residence life management team, the CDC will develop, implement and assess a comprehensive residentially-based co-curricular program that specifically addresses the myriad issues faced by undergraduate and graduate students as they live and learn in theresidence community.

Hours of Work: Regular office hours Monday to Friday. Regular evening and weekend work to coordinate operations and support students living in a 24/7 residence environment. This position participates in and on-call rotation for emergencies. This is a live-in position.
Your responsibilities will include:

-Maintaining documentation relating to applications and admissions
-Scheduling logistics required to move incoming and outgoing residents
-Developing and implementing community engagement strategies and plans
-Resolving minor interpersonal disputes between students and/or student staff
-Implementing plans and process improvements to increase program efficiency
-Investigating community standard and housing policy breaches
-Advising on correct disciplinary action to be taken against residents who breach policies and/or cause damage to the facilities
-Directing the activities of casual staff
 

Essential Qualifications:

-Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
-Minimum four years (combination of para-professional and professional experience is acceptable) living and/or working in a university residence setting.
-Experience in individual advising, conflict mediation, program development and community standards enforcement in a post-secondary residence community.
-Demonstrated experience dealing with emergency situations and crisis response.
-Comfortable working in an unpredictable and often stressful environment.
-Proven ability to deal with matters of extreme sensitivity and confidentiality.
-Experience supervising orsupporting student staff teams.
-Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office Suite.
-Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
-Strong oral and written communication skills, including strong public speaking skills.
-Excellent organization and time management skills.
-Commitment to improving and enhancing the residence experience.

Assets (Nonessential):

-Familiarity with eRezLife, StarREz and VingCard would be an asset.
-Experience working with diverse student communities and international students is also a significant asset.
